Are you building or planning major renovations for your home or investment property? Here is a summary of the five major stages involved to do so.

Stage 1 of the Construction Process – Foundation

Your building site is graded and excavated, and the boundaries of the foundation are laid out before the basic plumbing is installed and the foundation is poured.

Stage 2 of the Construction Process – Framing

Your property starts to take form as its interior walls, exterior walls and stairs are framed while the roof, exterior doors and windows are installed into the property.

Stage 3 of the Construction Process – Plumbing, Mechanical & Electrical Configuration

A host of installations occur during this phase as the water and wastewater piping is installed along with your electrical wiring, ducting, HVAC system and water heater. This stage is usually followed by an inspection and a report is drawn up.

Stage 4 of the Construction Process – Insulation & Drywall Installation

Your walls are insulated and then the drywall (or sheetrock) is installed over the walls. At this stage, you’ll be able to see your vision start taking form!

Stage 5 of the Construction Process – Exterior & Interior

The final touches are made to your property – all remaining electrical, mechanical, HVAC and plumbing systems are installed, and the ceilings, doors, window sills, cabinets, tiles, countertops, mirrors, lights and other fixtures are finalised. If a driveway is involved, it’s at this stage that it is completed along with the sidewalk modifications (if need be), and landscaping can begin for your gardens and foot paths.
